Things change. In recent years it's been harder to contract with a GmbH.

Our local cable provider gives us the major UK channels for no extra cost. But £9 for a beer and kebab seems about right.
£450 a day is about 600CHF. This is an amount you can live on, even in Zürich.
But it will not make you rich. Or even comfortably off. For contracting, it's low.

Thanks, duly noted and I had already done that.. but I did have some specific questions re: Rate. So thought i'd address my other concerns at the same time.

Having done the Europe thing and doing it now my advice is don't do it unless you have a speical interest in said country, are keen to absorb a new langauge, or the rate is super-stratospheric...

Need to factor in cost of running two places, travel (you can only claim one in and one out) and the cost of tax compliance plus missing home, missing proper telly and generally dealing with new ways of sorting your legislative life out - in Denmark it was CPR number and crap, only open at the most inopportune times and meaning a half day off several times as I had the wrong form.

Thanks Stek, I was hoping you'd chime in. I think if it was 2-3 months i'd do it, or if it was 2 years i'd do it and relocate for that time.. Other than that I think it might be too much of a ball ache.

Swiss tax as well as UK tax!? Oh man - sounds like a tonne of paperwork. SJD are my accountants - would they be the ones to sort that out? Guessing i'd need to ask them before I committed?

I'd say go in at £700 and see what you get beaten down to. If you actually want to do it. If you don't, go in at a grand and see what happens.

Go in at grand if you want to do it anyway. At least they might tell you the actual rate then. If you go in low, they're going to cream a higher percentage off you.

if it is any amount less than 1000 CHF per day, you will be better off working in UK
Dont forget you will have to pay swiss tax as well as UK tax unless you relocate to Switz. with family

Been approached with an interesting gig, but it's in Zurich. Seems like day rate is pretty flexible and the agent has essentially asked me to name my price for her to put forward to the client.

1) This is a 6 month gig. What have others done when they have landed European gigs? Flown out and back each week? Or stayed in rental accommodation / hotels?
2) Obviously I need to account for travel expenses + a percentage for the inconvenience of being out of the country. Has anyone got any recommendations on how much additional compensation I may need!?
3) My skillset seems to command a day rate of anywhere between £300-£450 a day, depending on the client, location and specialisms requirements.

Taking the above into account before I even go back with a formal response, my immediate thought was that i'd have to be asking for in the region of £600 a day, surely?
