It allows you after that 48 hours to go with other agents. Ask the agent if you've been submitted, if not then go with them and let them put you forward.

    Wow, what a chain.

When I have experienced just two tiers of agents it didn't work out well.
They tried to change the agreed rate, so in the end I had to tell them to go and multiply.

I would be tempted to swerve this one if I was you.
With that many agencies involved its likely your CV went nowhere as those agencies will have their own candidates too.

He needs someone to pick, if Psychocandy is not here has to be with me.

Looking at the job spec, it's like it's been copied from my CV. It's the closest match I've ever seen for me and looks to be exactly what I do. I'd be amazed if I don't get short-listed at least.

One month on though, the agent is saying he's not heard anything, he's chasing every day blah, blah and on this occasion I'm finding it hard to believe.

So, is there anything stopping me saying to him to pull out to allow me to go with one of the other 8 that might represent me better?

If not, what can I learn from this?

It's been a month. either the OP wasn't put forward by the agent or he didn't make the cut with the client, in either case nothing to stop another agency trying.

    What they said.

9 agencies is a bit ridiculous though (assuming they have all been engaged by the client).

When I'm not sure I tell the agency and he rings up and checks. It's not good for the agent either if your CV has already been presented to the client, so normally they'll be happy to check first.

You should add "on the condition the CV is sent to the client within the next 48 hours"

The only thing you can do is ask one of the other 8 to check you have been put forward for the role, then submit you if you haven't been put forward. Some agencies will bother others won't.
