Similar thing happened to me last week although was told the role was recruited internally instead. Reading between the lines I think someone's Visa got approved...

The agent was just as peed off as me as he could see his commission going down the pan. I hadn't signed the contract either as I was asking for some amendments.

It wasn't an ideal location anyway so onwards and upwards.

Hmm banking and finance pushes the average up with their 32.3% but the rest of the industry brings it down. I'd so your figure could be closer thinking about it.

Technically I think the agency has repudiated the contract which entitles the other party to terminate and, bring a claim for damages, if they chose to.

I've not been in this situation. So if I had a signed contract with a start date that is now in the past but I am still waiting instructions when to turn up, does that mean that the agency breached the contract and it is therefore legally void?

If I got another contract and signed and started there, what would be my position if the original agency phoned up the next day and asked me to start?

I guess it's very unlikely to happen, but what if it did?
