Agreed. Allot of companies are starving for developers at 25K rates, and the best they can offer is the equivalent in day rate for a contractor.. just to get somebody in, anybody, just do that HTML for us pleeeease.
There are tons of proper contracts out there, just a bit of a waiting game and when one does come up you need to trust your agent to get you in quick.

Must confess most of the FTC people I have worked with have ended up as permanent.
I really don't think it is anything for us to worry about.

The issue with a lot of FTC is that they are neither contract roles, or permanent roles with benefits e.g. pension so actually an abuse of workers
Some councils were taken to task under the Labour government for using them for the latter reason.
If they come with the pensions etc then they are suited to permies who change roles every 2 or so years.

But if someone can do it for two years and possibly more it wasn't a pukka contract role at all.Originally posted by SlipTheJab View PostThey are of concern if they are beginning to replace pukka contract roles.
Gov departments use them as the standard way of engaging permies so they are replacing our gig's.

Been seeing a lot of this in my own area where contracts are being turned into FTC for around 30k mark or very noticeable drop in rates. For the moment I have a longish term contract (but anything can change as we know). Will be squirreling away as much as possible to shield me from the cold dark days to come....
