I bought the manual off ebay and registered for the exam through a company called Spoce, who also provided a link to some exam materials which were useful. I would recommend this approach.

You're right. You can pass it easily by reading the book. No need for a course.

Mock a certificate up and print it off. No-one ever checks you attended these things anyway.
