Yeh! Realised my mix up of PAYE/SA as soon as I posted. You were too quick!
Anyway, if not higher rate and no tax to pay, don't think you actually need to register for either.

Registering for PAYE is a separate matter to registering to complete self-assessment tax returns, but you are correct in saying a company does not need to register for PAYE when it is not paying any salaries.Originally posted by xoggoth View PostReading the HMRC site it certainly seems to say that a limited company director must be registered for SA but that is not actually legally correct.
To explain why the above makes no sense - the post was edited as I replied.Last edited by Martin at NixonWilliams; 26 November 2013, 17:14.

Reading the HMRC site it certainly seems to say (or did when I last looked) that a limited company director must be registered for SA but that is not actually legally correct.
Have a look at answers here:

Yes, use the SA1 form and state that the reason you need to complete a return as you are/were a director of a limited company.Originally posted by ceejay007 View PostDo I need to register as an individual with HMRC (Form SA1) to get my UTR# and then complete the online registration/self assessment?
The SA1 can now be completed online, this is quicker than sending the paper form!

You'll need to register for a UTR before you're able to file a tax return.
As a director of a limited company you should file a return, even if there is no tax due.
HMRC are probably the best people to ask though, try giving them a call Self Assessment

You could try using google and go read the basics on the HMRC website.

REgistering for Self Assessment
Hi all
I was hoping someone can shine a bit of light on the on the self assessment requirement for me.
I'm the director of a limited company which has been operational since August 2012, however the contract ended in June and I am no loger in the UK.
As director, I need to submit a self assessment (even though I have no taxes/NI to pay).
Do I need to register as an individual with HMRC (Form SA1) to get my UTR# and then complete the online registration/self assessment? Or is ther another way around it? I already have an online account with HMRC, however it's for an organisation (the company) and not an individual. I have an option to register for self assessment through that, however I don't think that's the correct way of doing it.
Hoping someone can clarify this for me!
Thanks in advance
