Nope. I’m afraid that you’re bumping a 5 year old thread and the original poster here hasn’t been seen since.

Sue is still around, she may be able to help.

According the the payroll company I'm using over here its been done quite a bit. You can also get an A1 form as a self employed individual as I mentioned before. The company director approach seems to be a space in between.

My options seem to be to register as self employed as well as being my Ltd director, or to set up PAYE. Setting up PAYE seems to be a lot of hassle. Can anyone advise me on this?

    Can help

    Hi there,

An A1 Certificate is granted based on a number of tests, for both the employer and the employee and these can throw up some problems for Ltd Company contractors.

I have been assisting contractors working across EU/EEA for 8 years now and I would be happy to provide some help if you are still having difficulty with this.

If you would like to discuss, maybe you can send me a PM with suitable contact number.

    Sue

Its pretty quick. You can register online at HM Revenue & Customs: Registering by email

This will obligate you to complete the annual PAYE for 2012/13, and to fulfill your RTI obligations for 2013/14 onwards, but if you want to look after this yourself there are free payroll providers like BrightPay or 12Pay (we don't use either of these BTW and can't vouch for what their software is like).

Unless you are earning through PAYE elsewhere, then doesn't it make sense to set up PAYE and then pay yourself the tax-free threshold??

Don't know about a directory, but not all directors are employees - you can be a director without being an employee.

If you haven't grasped this, are you sure that you're cut out for contracting? Maybe you should ask your accountant etc. etc.
