I have business membership and so a VAT receipt etc

I presume if the membership is used for purchases that are wholly and exclusively for the benefit of the business then there should be no issue. If you are doing a personal monthly shop while there as well, then probably not.

The wife and I go to CostCo once a month, Sainsbury's website on her phone and Tesco on mine, usually there for special offers from the monthly magazine.

Can highly recommend their angus steak burgers, they are SUPERB.

Last time I bought dishwasher tablets was 18 months ago and still a couple of month worth left.
As has been said before not the cheapest but can get some good deals, 30 cans of coke for £6, 184 dishwasher tablets for £10, Loo roll offers for 40ish rolls.

Eggs are better than normal supermarkets. Quality is pretty good in general and they have an in-house baker and butcher on site at Chingford.

Indeed but he did mention iPod not iPad which threw me.

I said iPod, I meant iPod (as d000hg says, they're basically iPhones these days). iPad would have been a clearer example.

You can develop apps for the newer iPods too - they are basically an iPhone without the phone.

Yep agree they are all valid though would question why a 1 man band needs to put a TV up for customers but anyway.

The way you put it was one of those 'I am sure I can justify it to myself' threads we get from time to time. Yes if it central to your business it is indeed a business expense. The thing that threw me is you put iPod when I think you meant iPad. I thought listening to music to relax was R&D

Exactly! That's why my lovely Sony Android tablet went through the books. Though I am kinda bored with it now admittedly, Im assuming I can put it on Ebay?

He clearly stated that he would be using the membership to buy "office supplies and materials" so he could quite conceivably be using it 100% for business expenses. I suspect your time would be better spent trying to understand first and foremost rather than looking for an excuse to "go off on one" as you meant to say.

I am not sure why we are arguing as it is trivial but he would have to prove it was to an inspector which means not buying a little something while you are there cause it is cheap...... which is what everyone does. That's the technicalities of it. If the OP wants to convince himself it is 100% and the little things don't matter then that is up to him I don't GAS.
