    My argument was that if this document was so important that a replacement couldnt be send then at least sending it recorded delivery would have been an idea.

    They cant refuse to give you a P45 for whatever reason.

    Exit interview? Never heard of that. Anyway if you're no longer employed by them then they need to send you a P45, no ifs no buts. Phone HMRC and tell them what you wrote above.

    You don't need your P45 just complete a P46 at your next employer.

    P45 Question

    Morning,

    I am a contractor through an umbrella company.

    My contract says ten days days notice (both ways) which I provided in writing to everyone (client, umbrella, agency etc) and am due to finish tomorrow.

    My umbrella contacts me today to tell me I have to do an exit interview with them before they can start my notice and are with-holding P45 until this is done.

    Is this usual? Or can I tell them to die in a bus fire?
