You are more than likely liable for Austrian tax, yes with a clever lawyer keep the days of the contract below residency are possible, but best play safe pay the tax in Austria, you probably won't have to pay Austrian Social Insurance, which is usually the problem, particularly if the contract is temporary. I can't imagine the tax rates alone are that much more expensive than the UK, I suspect it would be the Social Insurance. There 's nothing worse than finding out the hard way that the Austrian tax authorities decide you should pay tax, that would be a disaster.

You need specialist advice and only someone that fully understands all your circumstances and understands the taxation rules of both countries will be able to give that to you.

Hi, so my problem is I'm working in Austria, going back to the uk about 20 days a year, my contract has just started so as of yet I'm not registered as sole trader or ltd. I keep hearing about a 91 day rule saying I'm classed as a non resident and not liable for uk tax, but as I'm earning 150000 euro a year paid into my uk bank, I have no clue what my best options are. I have no home address or assets in the uk and I'm not registered as living here in austria, and I don't want to pay Austrian tax as it's way to high.
