Forget about it, it they really wanted the info they would have chased it.

No point in opening an audit.

I have not changed address and have definitely not received any chasing letters.

I didn't pay any voluntary NIC's during that period so thank you for the reminder - I will investigate paying them now.

Out of interest, do you know whether I can pay the voluntary NIC's for that period without having to complete the HMRC request for information form?
I don't see why not. The voluntary NICS payments is the Department of Pensions, anyone has the right to 'top' up when they like providing it is within the permitted time limit.

Have you moved address and any chasing letters could have gone to a previous one?
To be on the safe side, I would advise either phoning them and asking if they still require the information or complete and return the form anyway.

Just a thought, did you protect your state pension by paying voluntary contributions whilst not working. If not, you can 'catch up' by paying at a later stage, BUT you only have so long in which to do so.

There are details here of how to make voluntary payments.

started a topic HMRC Request for information

    HMRC Request for information

For personal reasons, I was not working between 2005 - 07.

Prior to that I was a full time employee and upon returning to work, I have 'become' a contractor with a Limited Company which means I have been submitting a Personal Tax Assessment since then.

Last night, I was going through some old paperwork and happened across a letter HMRC sent me in January 2009 requesting further information for the years I was not working.

As I had mis-filed this letter, I obviously had not completed and submitted this back to HMRC and they have not chased me for it either.

I have submitted regular Personal Tax Assessments each year without issue so am wondering if it is now worthwhile for me to complete and submit this HMRC Request for information form - is anyone on the board familiar with this type of form and can offer advice?

Working...
