it appears their policy is to send these aggressive automated letters out and then investigate when you call up, it's not on

I've just had an issue with HMRC which has proved to me once and for all that they rely too much on technology for answers and don't do enough human validation of issues before assuming a stance.
I am currently documenting this issue as a formal complaint to them.

Our office seems to be constantly receiving calls from clients who have either:
(a) received a penalty notice for late filing - even although the return has been filed on time; or
(b) received a surcharge notice for late payment - even although payment has been made in good time.
As a matter of course, we appeal these notices and the penalty or surchase is normally dropped. Still a time consuming PITA though.

I did make this payment. I try calling the number on the letter but it keeps on saying they're too busy to answer my call then they cut me off.
I get at least one letter each quarter aggressively accusing me of not paying my taxes even though I have paid all of them on time.
I am sick and tired of this- do you get the same thing? They seem very incompetent to me.

Assume you mean the quarterly payslip? Had this problem long time ago, I was sticking in same account number every time without noticing it changed each month. Check you are using right payslip/account number for end of quarter, ie March, June etc.Last edited by xoggoth; 5 March 2009, 20:40.
