The UTR code is a ten digit code that's on all your correspondence from the revenue. If you still can't get one for your missus, then feel free to use mine

From my experience if you've never done a SA before then you won't have a UTR so you can't do a SA online. IIRC I had to contact (phoned) the tax office relevant to my employment who then sent me one out. It was quite painless.

What are you getting one for? It is on SA Return or request for SA return or statement of account.
