I always try to get on with the pimps - I usually succeed. I only ever renew if they buy me lunch - the pimps seem to like that.

Have a search on restraint of trade and handcuff clauses. 12 months may be excessive, 6 months may not. And of course it's a whole different ball game if you're opted in.

If you've signed a contract agreeing to those terms, then yes.

I've been in the situation where an agency which had originally placed me for three months ended up taking a cut for two years. Even the client wanted to cut them out of the loop, but their legal department looked at their end of the contract and decided it wouldn't be worthwhile even trying to negotiate it.

On the plus side, I found out from the agent that he only earned commission on the initial three month placement - I got the impression he was getting rather pissed off with having to do all the paperwork for the renewals when his employers took all the resultant money

Restricted to agency for 12 months

Does anyone know if an agency restricting you not to work for a client for x months unless the contract is through them is legal? Thanks.
