    But for how long?

Only being semi-serious, of course, but managers tend to notice clock watchers, even if the work is being done. The trick is to work 40 hours a week but not stick out as someone who's never there at 5:01.

Or work a day rate, do 30 hours a week and still deliver to time and quality, which is my approach

Your attitude is spot on, well it has served me well enough. Do a decent job for 7.5hrs and they are generally pretty happy. If they are not happy then tough !

one of the reasons i'm freelance is so i can't be pressured into working regular unpaid overtime because of someone elses poor planning or contempt for their staff.

I wonder what the agency would have said if you suddenly noticed the rate was £30 too low?

started a topic New agency contract with new rates

New agency contract with new rates

About 6 weeks ago I had to change agencies to continue working for my present client as they were reducing the number of agencies they would be dealing with.
I have been with this present client for 1 year, on the new 6 month contact I noticed the daily rate had increased by approx. £30 per day, but also showed an increase from 7.5 to 8 hours, I assumed the increase was for a slight increase of hours and/or a rate increase because of my time with the client and/or a change of commission rate due to change of agency, as the rate increased was I going to complain?
I submitted my first invoiced which was paid, however the agency called later to say that the rate was in error and should have been £30 less per day and they now want me to refund the overpayment (approx £660) to them, are they entitled to ask for this overpayment returned? Could they terminate the contract? The contract states the contract can be terminated if the client is not satified with my work etc, but there does not appear to be any wording regarding termination of the contract by the agency.
