    My friend had similar questions. I posted my application and got the certificate back in a month. No questions

    9 weeks is not bad, I applied in April this year and received the
    vat registration in the last week of August, took about 19 weeks.
    I paid my first vat return on 31/10/2007, there was 5months of
    backdated vat that the agency had to cough up, which took them
    4 weeks for them to pay up.

    the questions I got this week (after registering back in august) were:

    * provide sales invoices
    * purchase invoices
    * provide bank statements showing transactions

    I just passed on to my accountant who should already have the information required to complete this request.

    Looking forward to invoicing for the VAT for the last 2 months!

    I'm guessing that they are making sure that you are not going to be doing some carousel fraud.

    seems 'fairly' standard.

    We had something similar, however it was 18 months ago so can't be sure it was the same.

    We just sent a photocopy of our first (4 month) contract and everything was fine.

    VAT Registration query from Hector

    I've read here that people have had their VAT registrations held up by questions from HMRC. I applied some 5 weeks ago and have received a set of questions today. I've submitted them to my accountant for comment, but I thought I'd post them here in case they were of use to anyone.

    I'm kind of hoping they are a standard set - I'd welcome any suggestions on how best to answer - of course I have nothing to hide , but I don't want to draw unwarranted attention
