Why use an agency? Why not go direct? When client and worker are in different countries and the work is done remotely, there's no reason not to.

I've worked from Switzerland for a UK company, remotely, via my Swiss limited company. I bought Swiss indemnity insurance which covered worldwide clients. No tax was due in the UK as I was never working in the UK. Dual taxation treaties are irrelevant.

If you can't set up for a reasonable fee a limited company in Canada, then you might be able to be an employee of the UK company, but be paid gross by them, including whatever the Canadian employers social contribution might be, and pay over the social contribution directly to the Canadian authorities. But that depends on Canadian laws/rules. The other alternative is to contract to the UK company via a Canadian brolly. It'll just cost a bit more - if you can, get your (former) employer to cover the extra costs. It's probably still lower than the 13% or whatever they pay in ERNIC + other expenses they'd have for a standard, resident employee.

The first thing I am trying to figure out is how my contractor insurance would work. I work in the IT field so I would probably need some. I am not sure though where I should be looking for insurance though as I will be living in a different country but working for a UK company. Do I need to get insurance here or in Canada before I go? I have looked at umbrella companies but they have the same problem where they will only do it for the same country.

The second issue I have (not sure if anyone knows anything about tax law), but has anyone had any experience with tax when working in a different country? I know UK and Canada have a double taxation law but is this dependant on where you are living or the country of the employer or which bank account your money is going into? I have tried calling the HMRC, booked 2 different call backs for this issue and got 0 so far. So any advice here would be much appreciated.

I really really need some advice here as I have been looking everywhere and really can't find any answers to my questions. If anyone can give me any advice or point me in the right direction I would be incredibly grateful. The one I am really worried about and can't seem to figure out is the indemnity insurance so any clarity there would be fantastic.

    Thanks,

    Chris
I am very interested in this subject as I am also planning to move to Canada. Is there a contractors market there? If there is - is the money as good (or close) to UK?

Yes, how much indemnity insurance do they require you to have £100k, £1M, £10M - no point you getting £100K cover if they require £10M

This makes the most sense. No point spinning up a LTD for just 3 months.
It would likely be inside IR35 anyway.
