    I have a personal tariff and claim each month. I actually have included minutes in the plan but claim business calls for the duration of the call (in minutes) and claim 20p/minute. This often means I claim more than my actual bill. Is this legit?

    Sorry to wake this thread up again - but looking at the hmrc document, the only one I have found mentioning directors http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/EIM21779.htm
    It says - "In most cases" the provision of a phone to a director is exempt.
    At the moment I don't pay my hubby who is a director - is he still part of the "in most cases" or not? I could start paying him, but its not very tax efficient as he has another job as well!
    I would really appreciate an opinion from one of the accountants here

    I'd say 90% of my calls are personal & 10% business.
    Can I get the phone in my company name and as Pondlife suggest have the company pay the whole bill (personal + business) directly with no personal tax implications for me? Sounds too good to be true. If not what is my best option?

    Did the same as you...on Orange shareplan. Especially good on those lonely nights in hotel rooms with video calling back home....to say goodnight to the kids of course...nothing sinister!!!

    AFAIK there is no reason to get a business tariff. You can get a personal tariff and have the bills in the company name, then expense the lot.

    Mobile phone (company or personal)

    I realise this has been discussed before but I am confused, particularly with the revision to section 319 of the Finance Act 2006 Inland Revenue Page

    I need a new mobile contract, but don't know what I can legitimately claim from my Ltd company and any company or personal tax liabilities. Can a mobile be claimed on expenses or given by my comany? The phone would be used for both personal and business use (more personal) but I do not want to get two separate phones.

    My options are
    1)Mobile in my name and credit card and claim back as expenses (am I allowed to do this and if so how much?)
    2)Mobile in my name and on company credit card (am I liable to any NIC as well as benefit in kind (40%) on my P11D?)
    3)Mobile in company name and credit card. (am I liable to a benefit in kind (40%) on my P11D?)

    Just to make things more confusing I also seem to be able to get better deals online as a personal contract with the cashback schemes.
