Surprised Receipt Bank hasn't been mentioned yet - really nice mobile app + OCR to spreadsheet / API to your software of choice.

Looked also at Concur, which turns out to be for corporates, and requires opening a paid account, Shoebox, which describes itself as free but needs a subscription after the free trial expires and a couple others that were too rigid (e.g. no way to change the currency from $).
How did you get on with it? Considering subscribing.

Sorry I thought you meant entertainment isn't a legitimate business expense and so isn't worth claiming.

    It is both of those.

Are scanned expenses that much easier to fake than hard copies? Receipt printers aren't expensive.

Hmm, odd. I haven't paid a penny for it and mine does OCR.

I also use Evernote although I'm not really convinced it's the best tool for the job. It does OCR if you have a premium account but so does the software that came with my portable scanner.

Some are, although with mixed results I'm sure.

And as has been said, you need to keep the real ones for 5 years anyway.
No you don't. Scans are all you need. You're free to bin the originals. There are very few things HMRC require originals of these days. They have a list on their website of what you need to keep originals of. Receipts is not one of them.

This has been the case for years now.

The most notable thing you need to keep originals of is dividend vouchers although it's worth noting that if the original format was a PDF then that's all you need. You don't need to print them.
