Hi All,

I have just received an email from an agent, with a possible contract offer, and he asked me for the National Insurance number.

I thought that when I will set up the company, the accountancy will handle all that for me.

Am I wrong in thinking this? Should I apply for 1 directly myself?

He's trying to make sure that you are eligible to work in the UK. One check is to see your passport and stamps within it (if applicable) another is to ensure that you have an NI number.

This would be Reed Elsevier / LexisNexis job right?

Honestly, its just because the weird Job portal they use needs a national insurance number to check that the candidate is unique. A national insurance number is one of the few unique identifications that everyone working in the UK has.

Very very irritating on our side because everyone thinks its a scam. So we just fake them half the time and hope we dont get found out.
