We used to go first week of the summer holidays (private school, so we finished a week before everyone else), when it was a good time to go.

Thermal underwear would be a good start. We were in Disneyland Paris a couple of years back between Christmas and New Year and it was pretty cold. My sister's house (which has no heating!) had burst pipes that year because they'd left the water on and weren't there to stop it freezing.
That said, the coldest I've been in France (apart from on the slopes) was in February half-term, which was bitter.Comment
