flip knows - outdoor loo perhaps.... she had no indoor loo or TV - frankly when I was a kid, no TV bothered me more... She didn't have a kitchen really either - it was all about cooking on the fire... no wonder we all smelt like pikeys....
But I bet the food she cooked tasted wonderful.
My gran used to cook stuff on the fire... the grate had those swing in things that you could put kettles & saucepans on... kettle was always boiling away on the hob.
And an oven by the side that would cook wonderful cakes & tarts & stuff... much missed because it cooked from below... this is better apparently.
And all the smell of kippers & such went straight up the chimbley.... wonderful.
