My son in law gave us ten gallons of contract emulsion (White matt) that we are first coating with. it is a good filler paint and makes an excellent base for the more expensive final coats.

For some reason, I was reminded by that observation of The Ragged-Trousered Philanthropists by Robert Tressel.

(His real name was Robert Noonan, and he was a house painter and Socialist in Hastings. Died of TB, and it was some years after his death that his book was published in a heavily edited edition... and many more years before the original text was, insofar as was possible, restored.)
