scharma's rembrandt. i got pretty close - 3/4 of the way but although his writing and research was impeccable the artistic interpretation was all over the place. i put it down a couple of years ago and never quite got enough enthusiasm to pick it up again.

which, i guess, shows how bad the pratchett book must have been.

books i struggled with but still finished... don quixote springs to mind. some of it great much of it most tedious. need to be in the right frame of mind and have the period in mind when reading it.

kazuo ishiguro's never let me go. i really had a hard time with that one. i sooo nearly flung it away a number of times. it was worth it in the end but i did not get on with the style he used.

giles goat boy by john barth. significant novel at the time but out of the 60's us collage campus context not so great.

donna tartt's secret history. i didn't struggle with it but am still left bemused by the aura of greatness surrounding it. don't see it at all.

harriet beecher stowe's uncle tom's cabin. think that one took some ploughing through.
