Measuring up has been done. Glad we went for a revisit as I noticed that there is absolutely nothing in the flat that would facilitate broadband. Luckily the fibre product I've ordered wouldn't use it but it's annoying to now have to request permission to install fibre whereas I could have simply used an existing point of entry to get the cable inside.

Popped over to the bins to deposit a bag of recycling. On the way over, those two blackbirds were fronting up to each other again. So engrossed were they in this battle for territory that they completely ignored me as I passed them only a couple of feet away
And on the way back, I stopped to check the car's tyre pressures and oil. The latter was fine, and only one of the tyres wanted a small number of psi to get it to where it should be.
This was ahead of a trip tomorrow - this time north, to my brother's place in the Peak District. He and I are executors of our Dad's will, and he's just got the Inheritance Tax form ready for submission. So I need to go over it and append my signature, and then it can be submittedComment

NickFitz I'm sure it's all in hand but assuming all of your Mum's estate essentially passed to your Dad then you can claim the IHT allowance that would have applied to her, but remains unused, which doubles the amount of tax free proceeds you have. IHT400 and its notes...Comment

One thing I remembered to do after coming back from the doc's was to leave the bed to air. Suppose I'd better go and remake itComment

No further viewing tonight. In Nuclear Accidents, an early Canadian reactor using heavy water as a moderator managed to achieve the world's first power excursion in 1950, which happened because the operator became engrossed in a phone call and forgot what he was doing. Then, a few years later, the other reactor next door managed not only a power excursion but also the world's first core meltdown and first reactor hydrogen explosion, all in the space of about four minutes. This was also due to operator error, multiple ones this time. Interestingly, some of the human factors identified as leading to the incident were also found at both Three Mile Island and Fukushima, suggesting that our chances of getting better at this stuff may have been overestimated
The cleanup after the second one was assisted (in great secrecy) by a large number of American personnel, the naval contingent of whom was led by one Jimmy Carter
Early night now so I'm full of vim and vigour for the drive north, and indeed south again, tomorrow. I'll be coming back via Chatsworth farm shop, where I hope to obtain a variety of excellent cuts of meat
Goodnight allComment

Morning denizens
Up betimes for a Saturday, ready (well, kind of) for the journey north. I see from the radar that there's some rain up there, but it should have cleared by the time I arrive. Here, it's overcast with a chance of light rain soon. It's 12°C right now and peaking at 16° later, while the barometers are down a bit at 999/1007mBComment
