Decided to work my way through the pile of defunct hard drives and wipe them.

Next I might take apart the defunct PCs cluttering up a corner of my living room (there's only two).

Does anyone know of a proper recycling solution for this stuff?

Take PCs to local tip. After taking out hard drives and hitting with hammer.

Hammers don't work, not on anything less than 20 years old.

Powerdrill, a decent HSS bit, and drill holes in the things. Make sure you get the platters.
