It would have been a "pantry" back in 1912 when the house was built and has a proper stone shelf for the milk & butter to sit on.
Anyway, the bill spikes have bills on them going back to the 1920s.
You never know when something is going to come in useful, like.

They were in the car where I'd taken them off to put the sunglasses on.
