The wiki tells a lot more - I'd assumed by "pretended to be Chinese" that it was some sort of un-PC (by today's standards) dress-up, but it does sound like he successfully passed himself off as Chinese. Further to the RT of September 1983, there's a programme called "The Great Egg Race" presented by Professor Heinz Wolf.
It apparently included a visit to a submarine.
We don't seem to get programmes like that any more.Comment
