1983 is slightly before what I remember, but I well recall

      What a co-incidence :spooky:

The guy apologised for boring us all with his story - I thought it was fascinating! The wiki tells a lot more - I'd assumed by "pretended to be Chinese" that it was some sort of un-PC (by today's standards) dress-up, but it does sound like he successfully passed himself off as Chinese. But his grandson really is the spit of the picture in that article (replace hat with cycling helmet).

The other lot didn't, annoyingly close for them. They left it the last 10 minutes as usual.

          4 - 0.

          That'll make the Jacks happy.

          Not.

Further to the RT of September 1983, there's a programme called "The Great Egg Race" presented by Professor Heinz Wolf.

It apparently included a visit to a submarine.

We don't seem to get programmes like that any more.

Last time all of them won something (cricket included) we finished up with an idiotic statue cluttering up the corner of Gallowtree Gate, so it's probably for the best if only one lot succeeds at a time

That was quite entertaining, as I remember

Here's one that's presented by Hilary Henson, with Heinz Wolf as the "resident judge".

According to IMDB that's from 1980.

IMDB reckons it ran for 2 seasons, whereas I think it ran for at least 5.

Oooh, interesting. There's a nearby puzzle geocache called 'The Great Egg Race' - I've not yet solved it...
