Just watched Georgy Girl - you'll all doubtless be aware that Margaret Forster, on whose novel it was based and who also co-wrote the screenplay, died a few days ago

It's a cracking film. It really depicts the nature of life for young women around the mid-1960s, from Georgy (Lynn Redgrave) being offered the mistress contract by her father's boss with her father's implicit approval to Meredith (Charlotte Rampling) being looked at by the other women in the maternity ward when she rejects her baby.

And, of course, The Seekers singing the theme song ♫

I must have been four years old when that song was on the radio enough times to get lodged in my brain. I still love it

And I must have been about twenty-five when I first saw the film. It was when Deborah and I were living by Spinney Hill Park, and it was on one night when we came home from the pub. We loved it

So, overall, there's a lot of happiness in my life associated with that film. Rest in peace, Margaret Forster, and thank you for all that happiness

All totally futile but there you go.

      Duty done & all that.

I'm going to make sure I don't end up like that if I can help it.

I want to go and get a cup of tea, but I have two kitties on my lap. Rare that they'll both stay, usually if one gets up, t'other leaves.

Problem resolved. I sneezed, and both abandoned me. Probably don't want to catch the lurgy.

              Afternoon denizens

Grey day here. No snow, though, which was something the weather people were babbling of for today earlier in the week

By the way, it seems the new toilets are accessed by a different route - I overheard one chap explaining to his friends how he'd gone through a particular door to get to the toilets, only to find that was no longer the way to them and he was now locked out in the back yard
