Got a "News about your ticket" email from the Lottery. It inspired me to check the Wikipedia page for Jorge Luis Borges's story The Lottery in Babylon. Seldom have I seen such an abysmally poor description of a text. It's as if they actually set out to misrepresent and distort the nature and qualities of the story to the greatest degree possible. (Borges himself would probably appreciate such activities on a certain level.)
Don't bother reading it if you want to know the story; read the story instead.
It's a truly excellent story, well worth reading. Also, being by Borges, it's only about ten pages long yet contains much more food for thought than most novels. There's a good translation of it and many more of his stories in Labyrinths, published in Penguin Modern Classics. Highly recommended.
Still haven't checked what the news about my ticket is. I expect it's £2.70 again
