My 6th form we wore suits. Or jacket and trousers.
And if you wore a jumper, you couldn't wear a round neck in 6th form, despite the whole school uniform having round-necked jumpers.
Jacket and trousers at my school. The trousers had to be charcoal grey, and the jacket a specific shade of dark blue. Plain black shoes. Black or dark grey socks. White shirt. School tie.
The school tie was plain black when I was first there; then they changed it to the school's dark blue with stripes in your school house colours. (Mine were silver and black.) It was only at this time that we learned that the plain black tie was in mourning for Queen Victoria. The change was made in '78 or '79, so the entire school had, mostly unknowingly, been in mourning for about 77 years
Only monitors were allowed to carry an umbrella. They were also allowed to wear a waistcoat. Most adopted one with some ridiculously flamboyant floral design that made them look like a Victorian sofa; but at least they had an umbrella to keep it dry
