I finally got forced out; just got back from Sainsbury's

It was the bin liners that broke me in the end. The kitchen bin had been compressed so many times the potato peelings at the bottom were turning into diamonds, and I'd forgotten to get bin liners the last few times I'd been shopping. So I had to empty the bin, which means going out to where the cars are anyway, so I went.

Bonus purchase: some tenderloin pork fillet, which I intend to dice and use in a cider casserole

I tend to use carrier bags as temporary bin liners and get rid quick, stops the kitchen smelling up...down side is I have to go to the wheelie bin outside more often but meh...

I thought about that, but the bin's too tall - I just end up with a carrier bag at the bottom of it surrounded by rotting stuff that missed

I just stick everything organic in the compost heap.

However, I have a fine collection of plastics, glass and cardboard that is off to recycling on Thursday.

Depends, I tend to not put it in the actually bin but hang up on the worktop edge...put rubbish in whilst cooking then tie it off and put in bin/take to outside wheelie bin, put out another carrier bag and repeat...

It must be said that the compost heap merely grows larger & larger and is never actually used to provide compost.

I suspect that it's very sour inside.

Maybe I should turn it all over.

I've been managing to keep the recycling under control for several weeks now. It helps that everything goes in the one orange wheelie bin, and you can stick it in there mixed up, in carrier bags.

Rumour has it there's some change to the rules coming along in the New Year and they'll have to go back to making us separate it. If this is true, investing in the plant where it can be taken in mixed will have been a complete waste of money
