Went out for a takeaway earlier. Having been dry all day, it started raining the moment I shut the front door behind me
Just a shower though. Might amble up to the pub - that should bring it down good and proper when I have to walk a mile back at half eleven

Police car came zooming by at a rate of knots.
Quite a few knots, obviously. I mean, 2 knots is a rate of knots, but the expression "a rate of knots" is, as I've always understood it, intended to imply a speed greater than that of a narrowboat heading upriver on an August Bank Holiday.
Then an ambulance, also at a rate of knots (with the proviso mentioned heretofore).
But you can't conclude anything from the near-concurrence of these occurrences. The ambulance's excursion could have nothing to do with the police car's, given that I was walking away from the environs of the hospital, where ambulances are often to be found waiting for trade.
