Wonderful.
The new VC gave a State of the Nation today.
You can tell he's a Proper Academic coz he was quoting from Plato's Republic & stuff.
Which went over ever so well with us rude mechanicals.

In particular, what the philosophers must know in order to become able rulers is the Form of the Good—the source of all other Forms, and of knowledge, truth, and beauty.Originally posted by ZeityOh dear, we're fecked.
Plato cannot describe this Form directly, but he claims that it is to the intelligible realm what the sun is to the visible realm.
Using the allegory of the cave, Plato paints an evocative portrait of the philosopher’s soul moving through various stages of cognition (represented by the line) through the visible realm into the intelligible, and finally grasping the Form of the Good.
The aim of education is not to put knowledge into the soul, but to put the right desires into the soul—to fill the soul with a lust for truth, so that it desires to move past the visible world, into the intelligible, ultimately to the Form of the Good.Originally posted by Zeity

Oh something different...
Messages to Bennu
NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission and The Planetary Society invite you to submit your name for a round-trip ride to asteroid Bennu. Your name will hitch a ride to the asteroid, spend 500 days there, and return in the Sample Return Capsule to Earth in 2023.
Plus your name will be on the spacecraft, which will remain in space long after returning the sample return capsule to Earth
Also you get to download a certificate showing that your name is included on the mission...
Might be good for some of you?Join IPSEComment
