Psychic databases!Originally posted by TheFaQQer View PostEmail from business user
That's the response to me pointing out that you want me to use as a starting point something which doesn't exist in the database.
If it doesn't exist, cretin, then I cannot use it. In some cases, it will be in the head of a user, and you expect the database to automatically know what that value is and use that as a starting point.
It's the next big thing.Comment

I like the thinking. If only the client were smart enough to realize what a ridiculous idea they have come up with.Originally posted by zeitghost View PostPsychic databases!

"Where is the data stored?"
"It's not"
"So how can I use it to build the hierarchy?"
"You're focussing too much on 100% automation"

Sounds like they're focussing too little on the 0% automation which they're going to end up with.Originally posted by TheFaQQer View PostI like the thinking. If only the client were smart enough to realize what a ridiculous idea they have come up with.

I've put a load of assumptions in the buildOriginally posted by Bunk View PostSounds like they're focussing too little on the 0% automation which they're going to end up with.
e.g. I assume that ATTRIBUTE1 on the table will hold the data I need.
That way, as soon as it's in the database, I can change the one line and it will all work.
Of course, it will never work, but it's a safe assumption based on the specification I have in hand
I could even go as far as configuring the application to hold that information, so all they need to do is populate the field.....Comment
