Damn, was going to add one but it's restricted to 25 chars and it doesn't post them in order so you can split it across multiple tags

Unfortunately, the chinese weren't joking when they said the minimum Vcc voltage was 4.5V.

It's very dim at 4.5V & invisible at 3.8V (which is what the gsm thingie wants).
