Right, got some friends coming to dinner next week, thought a retro meal would be fun.
I know I'm doing baked alaska for dessert.
Am undecided on starter; chicken liver and port pate with melba toast or prawn cocktail with brandy marie rose sauce and equally undecided on mains; coq au vin or duck a l'orange?
Hmmm!
I'm drawing the line at having blue nun or black tower to drinkComment

You might want to consider chicken in a basket (make the basket out of something edible?). The classic 70's dish was steak (onion rings, peas, chips) as it were the height of sophistication, but can't see how you could do something fun with that as it is still so popular.
Totally agree on the wine but a Thunderbird shandy may go down well?
Mr Z suggests a Cinzano for drinks. With a cherry.
