I have an ever growing pile (or hemorrhoid) of discarded components returned by esteemed customers in their desperate attempt to fulfil the conditions of their assignment.

The idea that one might use two resistors in series to make up a value that isn't in the stores list appears to be entirely novel.

Just issue them with a 1K, 10K, and 100K pot and they can twiddle 'till they get the desired results? Tactile in'it?

They appear to have difficulty in understanding the mysteries of the potentiometer.
