I'm sure that if sites like flickr and del.icio.us can run on mySQL then it must be possible to get TPD chugging along nicely. That's why I'm now delving through blogs and books written by the people who created, among other things, flickr and del.icio.us

Particularly those timeout values... maybe tweaking those things could help give TPD a bit of breathing space whilst further solutions are investigated.

I've been twiddling my thumbs quite a bit, and when I ask for something to do the response tends to involve a bit of umming and aahing, followed by a suggestion that I could look into some vaguely-specified nice-to-have featurette, if I wanted to. Still, they're paying me so that's OK
Maybe they have employed for the kudos of having you.
Can you be seen from outside? It might be your dashing good looks. If they ask you to cover Reception, be flattered.
