It turned out it had been a very busy night - the local football thing was "playing at home" or something like that (I don't understand all the intricacies), it's payday weekend for the salaried types, and of course loads of people were there for the ghoul factor.

Or, as I put it: "Oh look, that place we haven't been in for twenty years is closing down. Let's go there and prate loudly about what a shame it all is."

So we have about a kilo and a half of cheap lollies (sweets) going spare. I won't eat them because they are cheap rubbish. Does anyone want them?

If all 20 million households spend £10 on sweets and another £50 on costumes, make-up and party things, that's £120m. Of that, about £20m is VAT.

No wonder the government won't do anything to stop this annual travesty.
