I expect DaveB to snaffle this one though.

Yes, as a business decision it was definitely a good move on their behalf, but it effectively killed the hobby in the uk,out side of their own games.Originally posted by voodooflux View PostFrom a pure business perspective it was a shrewd (and lucrative) move to focus on their own products - especially their decision to acquire most of the companies in their supply chain. As a vendor of other products I'm not sure whether they would still be around today.
I do think they would have stayed in business and benefitted from the growing popularity of RPG's that they effectivly killed, but would probably not have made as much money out of it."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

Were there no other competing vendors of these products at that time? I remember Virgin Megastores in Birmingham had a good RPG section at one time.Originally posted by DaveB View PostYes, as a business decision it was definitely a good move on their behalf, but it effectively killed the hobby in the uk,out side of their own games.

It's a shame there isn't more competition really - if only to force their prices down a bit! I read an investment assessment of them a couple of years back that rated them highly due to their loyal customer base and lack of competition.Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?Comment
