Back then there wasn't anything to be a fan of. They were a general RPG and games shop. Whitedwarf was their gaming magazine, probably the best around, and carried articles and material for a whoe range of games rather than just being their in house mag supporting Warhammer and it's variants.

When they decided to drop everything but GW products from the magazine the games community split pretty much down the middle and it started the demise of RPG's from their heyday of the mid 80's when they were on the edge of going mainstream to the low point in the 90's when they were pretty much ridiculed.

Warhammer as a game is pretty good, and I have to day I do like 40k but I'm definately not a fan of GW as a company.

Nice selection.

Don't like that McKewan's Champion No 1 though. Strong but nasty IMO. I have problems getting through a bottle of it on the rare occasions that I buy one on the off chance I might like it more.

From a pure business perspective it was a shrewd (and lucrative) move to focus on their own products - especially their decision to acquire most of the companies in their supply chain. As a vendor of other products I'm not sure whether they would still be around today.
