Many years ago an experienced freelancer I worked with went on holiday for most of January.

I queried this and he said "Why go on holiday in the summer, when it is nice at home, and stay at home in the middle of winter when it is cold and dark at home yet hot, sunny and cheap elsewhere?"

Since then the Missus & I have tried to follow that philosophy and book our 'big' holidays for January.

It makes a summer holiday seem, well, foolish.

It is OK until you're on the receiving end when it can be very, very unpleasant.

Got attacked when I first joined up, dealt with the buggers and all fine now.

                Maybe I've been lucky.

                  Phil turns 40 today.

He was 36 when he last logged in here.

He posted a question, didn't like the answers, and never came back.

I wonder what he's doing now.

PlusNet are the lot that jumped on the "free email and webspace" bandwagon around 1999 with "FreeOnline".

I still have a FreeOnline email address. I signed up with them because I was about to go a-contracting, and all the other free email services had horrid, unprofessional domains. They, however, had the sense to register idps.co.uk, and then prepend your user name to make up the email domain, meaning you can use lots of different usernames (to track possible spam sources). Back then, an address like [email protected] looked a lot more professional than something like drunkenslutwhore@hotmail.com.

I remember reading an article a few years ago about the fact that people actually submit CVs with email addresses such as the latter specified as their contact address

Strangely enough, some people need to be told that this is a Bad Idea, as they don't sound sufficiently professional

Returning to your point: I've never tried their broadband service, but it sounds like they're pretty useless. The fact that, ten years on, their free email service still works perfectly will probably annoy you even more
