The phone line got connected, everything was fine and then I tried to order broadband from Be. "There's already broadband on the line" they told me. "Can't be", I said, "I've only just got the line connected". "Nope, definitely got BT broadband on there" they told me. I was starting to by this point.

It became apparent that BT had cancelled the payment for broadband but not the actual broadband connection so it was blocking the line. I called them to explain but, because I wasn't paying for it, they claimed I didn't have it. I was at this point.

After several months(!) of this nonsense I managed to get someone to disconnect a non-existant broadband connection so I could order it from the provider I wanted. During this time I spent many hours on hold with BT, got disconnected many times and even got connected to an incoming call from another customer! Needless to say, if I can possibly avoid having anything to do with BT I will do.

So, in conclusion RC, it's not just you this sort of thing happens to. It still makes me even now.
Any reason you couldn'tt have just hooked up a router and used it anway? Just wondering.

Even better, I managed to stop myself from buying the Yamaha B1/C1 amplifier/preamp combination... that was even more serious money back then.

The CT7000 was what killed off my Hi-Fi buying.

The blind Hi-Fi wizard known as Angus McKenzie gave the thing a rave review.

The next month he decided that the Accuphase tuner was better. At a mere £300.

By this time, of course, I'd bought the CT7000.

      It's never had much use.

Built like a brick tuliphouse, with a 7 gang tuning capacitor... remarkable engineering.

Apart from the reverse biased tantalum caps in the audio path of course.

I think I'll stay out of General for a bit, at least until scotspine has gone away.

i need to get away early. gotta go and collect the car from the garage.

since the garage is at the other end of my commute and they close at 6 i need to be gone by 16.30 to have a hope of getting there in time.

They are probably still hacking their way through the blubber, working in shifts to avoid fatigue.
