I got around to charging up my iPod Nano tonight and gave it a blast - I don't subscribe to the modern obsession with having music wherever I go (usually it's nicer to just listen to the ambient sound, even on the Northern Line; reality is there for a reason) but now and again I have a go at doing what the "normal" people are doing, just to keep my hand in
I listened to Philip Glass's The Grid (from the soundtrack of possibly my favourite film, Koyaanisqatsi) in the full-length (21:23) version. It still had about three minutes to run by the time I made it to the pub, so I had to save the rest up for the journey back.
Having finished it off by the time I was passing Fitzwilliam College (no relation) I switched over to Jordi Savall's recording of Sonnerie De Ste Geneviève Du Mont-de-Paris by Marin Marais.
It's intriguing to discover the resonances between Glass's rich minimalism in The Grid and similar self-imposed constraints in Marais's Sonnerie... - one might expect them to be working in adjacent studios, yet their works are separated by more than two-and-a-half centuries
That's Monday night for youComment

Morning all
Thanks for the kind comments.
Looks like will not operate on mother-out-law immediately. Apparantly its best not to operate directly after heart attack. Heart is bruised and needs to form scar tissue. Will operate 2-6 weeks time.
No doubt they will decide to operate day before wedding(25th July) or honeymoon(8th Aug)!Comment
