Not a good year for coal tips and schools, with the combination of the two producing the Aberfan disaster which killed 144 people.
And the kind, caring socialist government of Harold Wilson was good enough to extract money from the Aberfan Appeal Fund to pay for the removal of the rest of the coal tip.
Socialism at its best.
