During a student break I once made springs for £1.50 an hour, cash in hand.

I spent a summer digging potatoes for that. Well, not actually digging them, Riding in the machine behind the tractor sorting them and chucking them in bags, and rescuing the odd mole that made it up the converorbelts without getting squished.
