I love it when lack of a plan comes together...
A CMS that ClientCo are creating for a very important client was, until now, lacking one important feature: the nested hierarchical navigation on the left, which is all collapsible and expandable and such (driven by JQuery), didn't automatically expand to show you where you were when you went to a page.
This task was apportioned unto me this afternoon, with the suggestion that maybe something clever could be done like setting a cookie when they clicked on a link, then reading that cookie to see where the user had come to and expanding the tree accordingly
After a bit of playing, I realised that it takes precisely one line in JQuery:
which just says "Within the navigation, find all the lists that are ancestors of the link that points to the current page, and expand them".Code:$("#leftNav ul:has(a[href=" + document.location.pathname + "])").css({display: "block"});
They were somewhat taken aback by this
