Sounds quite exciting, and certainly more so than our thill fest of dodging fork lift trucks driven by trainees.
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

This intrusion is around 300ft high and extends from the bottom of the quarry pit to the upper lip and is around 100ft across.

        Hint taken, loud and clear.

They have to blast it out section by section from the top downwards and the geology means they cant do it in nice neat sections like the rest of the quarry.

So they are placing 3 tonne of explosives into it at a time, lighting the proverbial touch paper and standing WELL back when the rock comes down. Around 17,000 tonne at a time.

I did take some piccies of the blast sequence that came out quite well, then forgot to upload them, so I will do it tonight and post a link.

I'm going to try and go back for the next blast and get some video.

I hope they keep them in a metal tin, and all pets safely indoors.

There is a footpath that runs around the edge of the quarry, outside the exclusion zone for blasting but with a clear view accross to where the uncontrolled stuff is happening.

Didn't wxman post some footage of a quarry blast a while back? Might go and have a look for it...
